In recent years, an urge can be seen in most universities, even in some reputed institutions to educate, promote and even sponsor their students for CAT and other competitive exams mostly as to fulfill the requirements of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) a body responsible to rank institutions across the country.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF):
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honorable Minister of Human Resource Development in September 2015. The rank of institutions across the country is determined by the methodology suggested by this organization. The methodology, set up by MHRD draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Resources and Learning,” ”Graduation Outcomes”, “Outreach and Inclusivity,” “Research and Professional Practices,” and “overall image”. For India Rankings – 2017, the main ranking parameters remain the same as in 2016 . However, as expected a few sub-parameters underwent some noticeable changes. Also, this year every large institution will be given a common overall rank as well as a discipline specific rank as applicable. Details are followings
Graduation Outcomes
- Combined % for Placement, Higher Studies, and Entrepreneurship (GPHE)
- Metric for University Examinations: GUE
- Median Salary
- Metric for Graduating Students Admitted Into Top Universities (GTOP)
Metric for Number of Ph.D. Students Graduated GPHD
It can be noticed that one of the many parameters which are considered graduation outcome is the most sought after, as it fulfills the ultimate goal. Together with usual campus placement most of the sub parameters will generate incredible scores if their candidates either crack CAT the gateway of higher studies at premium institutions or several other competitive exams which will get them government jobs. This is what drive them to spend considerable resources and manpower on encouraging their candidates to take CAT seriously, as this can be much rewarding.
